And to make the photos perfect, you surely need a good camera. So, bring out your DSLR, brush off the dust from the lens and gear up for an unforgettable experience.

It is okay to feel apprehensive while thinking of photographing birds within their natural habitat. Obviously, you won’t be able to go too close and have to refrain from creating any type of sound. Also, you need to be quick enough to capture a moment as it might not last if you procrastinate. So, when you are thinking of all of these factors, you head might start buzzing. But here are some words of assurance for you. You are not the only one, who feels the same way while photographing birds during bird watching trips. Even seasoned birders fail to get the perfect shot while birding. So, here, I am going to tell you about some photography hacks that really helped me during my first China birding tour. If you are going to China or in any other place on earth, these tips will surely help you.

Identify and Isolate

The natural habitat of the birds is often quite cluttered. Unkempt grasses and trees and other species of birds will be around. So, it is necessary for you to choose the subject and isolate it. Don’t leave out the background completely. Make it a part of the image. It is up to you actually how you are visualizing it. Now, isolate the image from other objects within the frame. Use your f-stop, angle of shooting, and proximity to the subject to eliminate all the unnecessary factors from the picture.

Anticipate Behavior

When you are going for bird photography, you have to anticipate their behavior. Birds behave in their natural habitat in various ways. They fly, scamper, swim, mate, fight, and dive, sometimes constantly, sometimes all at the same time. To anticipate, you need to have a sound knowledge of the subject. Research a lot before you are going for the trip about the species you are thinking of photographing.  Take help from to guides to know about their behavior. Anticipation is important as this will enable you to select the right shutter speed, f-stops, and ISO and finally get a stunning image.

Let the Bird Come to You

When you see a bird, delightfully chirping, not so far from you, it might feel tempting to chase it or go close to it in order to capture a beautiful shot. But it will drive the bird away as it will think of you as an impending danger. So, it is necessary for you to let them come to you. This is a bit tricky actually. You need to know a lot about the natural habitat as well as the bird. Your research will tell you where the bird will fly, land or walk. Set your camera in advance to capture the most compelling and intimate photo of the bird.

So, now as you know about the tips, keep them in mind while photographing birds in China, especially during your Yunnan Birding Tours. Be rest assured, you will take back with you some amazing memories and moments captured in your camera.
