Italian Bicycle Cruises
Salve! To all the peddling maniacs. I landed in the city which gave birth to our two most yummy foods, the pizza and the pasta. It is amazing that besides the food and wine, there were four places that just gave me an amazing experience while cycling. These places had breath-taking and awe inducing views. I had to stop at so many points just to take in all the beauty that by the time I was done my friends were telling me that they better of bringing a snail with them.
Jokes aside, I really was not expecting the abundance of Mother Nature’s beauty. After my first cycling trip I thought, surely there must be other places that have the same scenic routes, so I decided that I was going to ask around the locals and check out other places. I thank god for my decision because let me tell you, it was simply awesome.
I visited 2 places while I was there, the Dolmites and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, I hope you enjoy my story and one day, have your own Italian bike experience.
1. The Dolomites: The Dolomites in northern Italy was one of the first places that we visited. As we were looking around in wonder at the 2000+ meters peaks we were spoilt for choices on routes to cycle through. It was nearly impossible to with till the next day for us to explore the pinked and craggy peaks of the mountains surrounding us. After travelling through two different routes we came upon a caf where we had some amazing food and the ever helpful locals directed us to some of the most scenic routes that I have had the privilege to ride through. The raw blast of nature made me and my worries seem insignificant. I would definitely recommend these peaks for those who like to go high and get lost.
2. Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Located in the far reaches of the, often overlooked, north east corner of the country it was simply an amazing experience. Being an earthly region the warm and rocky plains made you feel as though you could just keep going for ever and never reach your destination. Along the way we were eagerly waved by the Slovenian farmers tending to their fields. The roads were very easy to pedal and not as tough as The Dolomites. The experience we had was not only about seeing the scenery but the smell of freshly tilled earth made me realize that we hardly stop in our busy life to appreciate the beauty around us. The jaunt through the Istrian coast was really one of a kind. We finished the evening with some amazing food at the local piazza who also served the regions amazing white wine.
One of the best times of my life, I had with my friends in Italy and it was not just eating pizza and drinking wine. To all those people who have not been there, take my word for it you won’t be disappointed.Salve! (again)
