Time for a road trip

If you are planning to travel with your baby or toddler, it is important to know that you need to be prepared for literally anything that might happen while travelling. Before you leave for the road trip, it is vital that you make a travel checklist so that you make sure that you packed everything that you might need. Ask somebody that already travelled to same destination with baby, what is their experience and try to think off everything that you might need. Travelling with young child is a big responsibility and it will also test your patience; be well prepared that it will be tiring, exhausting and at some points it might seem even impossible. However, if you pack all your essentials, then it will be much easier experience.

Time for snacks and drinks

During your trip, it will be possible that your child will get hungry or thirsty, and it can be really unsettling if there is nothing to eat or drink. If you are travelling by car you may end up stuck in the traffic. If you pack road trip snacks that your kid and you can enjoy, be sure that even big jams on the road will be more manageable. Be prepared and remember to pack your baby’s favorite things and enough liquids for whole family. Make smaller breaks every few hours so you could all take a break from long sitting.

Beating boredom

Nobody likes to sit still for hours at no end, and your child will be no exception. You must remember to pack an activity bag full of toys, so that you can entertain yourselves if the trip becomes too boring. If your baby is happy, and well-entertained, then even the longest journeys can seem to go by in an instant. CDs, music toys , tablet, books might be good idea.

Baby essentials

Never leave anywhere without packing enough wet wipes, dippers, creams and other cleaning agents; and especially without enough clean clothes. Always keep an extra pair of clothing somewhere near you, so you don’t have to rummage through a large suitcase if your child gets wet or dirty. Remember to bring some basic medicine as well because your destination might not have any 24/7 open pharmacies. That includes things like medications against motion sickness and allergies, antipyretic, repellents, oral rehydration salt-fluid, antiseptic solution… Furthermore, do not forget your baby’s favorite blanket or toy as they can be used to calm your baby down if needed.

Baby gear

It is vital to baby-proof your vehicle, if you are travelling by car. Installing baby car seats is a must, and you should make sure that it is securely attached to the seat so that nothing can go wrong. You will need to bring your baby pushchair with you, so you might think about getting some light travelling stroller. Some baby car seats can take up a lot of space, but if you combine car seat that can double as a pushchair, like Bugaboo strollers you will be sure that your baby is safe in your car and you don’t have to bring extra baby gear with your self.

Geared up to travel

Before the road, take your car in for service and thoroughly check to make sure that everything is in order:oil, tires, engine, spare tire… Just in case, pack up and take with you basic tool kit, first aid kit and a flash-light.

Do not forget to bring all necessary identity documents, car documents like registration, traffic booklet and consider getting additional family travel insurance policy. And of course, don’t forget to have good time and enjoy yourselves!
