Travelling with Tots

Travelling with Tots

Spread the love

Travelling with toddlers is an entirely new experience for any parent to go through. Since they are curious and inquisitive, toddlers need twice the care an infant does. They are energetic and if you are prepared for traveling with one, then your trip will be as delightful as it will be to them.

When travelling with a toddler, one has to keep them distracted and comfortable enough that they do not cause trouble. Play games, entertain your toddler and the trip will be better for everyone involved.

Drain their Energy

Knowing that a toddler is an energetic little thing, you should let them take their energy out once you reach the airport. Letting them push a small suitcase or walk on their own will make sure that they are relaxed during the flight. If they are getting agitated during the flight, give them new toys or new games that they could try out. Novelty goes a long way when travelling and to give a child something new to play with is like giving yourself a trip to remember.

Build Anticipation

Knowing that a child can get easily distressed is vital. They do not have the patience or social responsibility to keep silent and wait it out, so making sure that they are comfortable is recommended. Since children get agitated by loud noises and the push and pull of travelling, they get frightened. To keep that from happening, it is important that you keep them close. By giving them your presence, you are giving them comfort and once they are relaxed, interact with them, show them the airport and get them excited. Be sure to tell them what will happen so they have a sense of security being with you.

On the Road

Once on the road, a toddler will get frustrated easily. He or she will want attention and sitting at the back, even through his/her favorite songs and games, tends to get boring. Once they want to get off, it becomes a problem. The best solution is to be prepared with a lot of games and activities. Plan the trip during nap time and once the car pulls away, interact with the toddler immediately. Keeping him or her involved will eventually lead the child to want solitude so that they can look at books or do something on their own. A safe and silent trip will guarantee peace of mind for the parents and the child alike.

Let Them Know What to Expect

Often, after a long trip to another city, a child will become clingy towards the parent. This is common when staying at a relative’s house or a hotel. It will be unfamiliar and the child will want something to make them feel at home. In a strange home, they will be tantrum prone and agitated because it will not be familiar. Let them take their time and bring their toys and familiar things with them. Let them know it is safe and make them feel as comfortable as possible.

Making sure that you and your toddler have the best travelling experience is important. So instead of staying in a hotel, choose something like apartments in Edinburgh where you can give the child all the comforts and privacy of home.
