Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is located 130 km from Varanasi down the Robertsganj- Ghorawal Road in Mahuwaria in the Sonbhadra District of the State of Uttar Pradesh. It is an ideal place for those who love nature and wildlife.

The Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1982. Its area spans more than 501 square kilometers. In addition to the animals and the diverse flora and fauna found here, there are also a number of waterfalls and caves that are believed to have their roots in the pre-historic past. Additionally rare fossils and rock paintings can also be found at this place.

Among the wide variety of species that can be found here are chitals, tigers, black bucks or Indian antelopes, porcupines, sambhars, blue bulls, Indian monkeys, chinkaras, wild cats, baboons or langoors, rabbits, wild dogs, snakes, leopards, wolves, bears, peacocks, mongooses, jackals and ratals.

Famous for winter tourism in the region, it is said that the best time to visit this park is during the months of October to March and if one goes early in the morning or in the evening, there is a greater chance of spotting many different animals who consider this place home.

Visitors who want to find out more about this attraction would also like to know that there is a nature center which houses a number of collections of photographs, collections of herbs and vegetables found in this area. Its an ideal place to learn many things about the culture of the area and to mingle with the locals.
